Kevin Bingham is a current International Union of Architects (UIA) Council member representing Region 5 (Africa) and facilitates the UIA’s COVID-19 Information Hub, and serves on the UIA’s Finance Committee. He is a Director of the award winning FGG Architects based in Durban, South Africa.

    Kevin is a former President of the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA), and the former President of SAIA’s KwaZulu-Natal Region. He currently serves on the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP), where he chairs the Education, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Committees. He also represents SACAP on the international Canberra Accord. He is the Co-Founder of SAIA’s Open Architecture, which facilitates the continuing of architecture education through the ‘blended learning’ pedagogy, for students beyond their initial undergraduate degrees or diplomas.

    He is the former Honorary Advisor to the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Programmes in Architecture and is currently an Honorary Advisor to the University of Pretoria’s Programmes in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design.

    Kevin has over 3 decades of experience in practice in South Africa and the UK, including a decade in full-time academia, with semester visiting lecturer posts at QUT in Brisbane and Liverpool University, UK. His main research interests lie in the relationship between infectious diseases and architecture, and the related design of medical and public facilities, including studies at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

    Beyond Architecture and Education, Kevin’s other leadership roles are in the field of Yachting, where he is a South African Sailing national race officer and holds national Protea sports colours for sailing management.
